Lehmbau-Praxis: Planung undAusführung

Ulrich Röhlen, Christof Ziegert

For a long time, clay eked out a shadowy existence as a building material, but for a while now it has been rediscovered for its many qualities. Clay is superior to many other building materials in terms of indoor climate and naturalness. But also economic aspects such as the extraordinarily good energy balance lead to the fact that meanwhile more and more is built with loam. “Lehmbau-Praxis” offers both an introduction to the topic and opportunities for further study. It is dedicated to conveying basic knowledge about clay as a building material and presents formulations and building material properties. Particularly helpful for practical applications are the comparative observations in which clay is compared with other building materials. The two major focal points of the book are, first, clay plasters: clay plasters are the most common use of clay in construction, and this volume examines them in corresponding detail. Second, “Earth Building Practice” provides detailed information on the restoration of existing, historic earthen structures, and offers an overview of historic earthen building techniques, as well as instructions for restoration.
