Architekturführer Zürich 2020

Werner Huber

The Architecture Guide Zurich documents buildings and ensembles of the city from all eras. The main focus are buildings from 1850 onwards. The architectural guide focuses on the city area, but also looks beyond it, for example at focal points of the fast-growing regions of of the Glattal or the Limmattal. The book is organized by object, arranged according to the district and neighborhood divisions of the city of Zurich. Introductory texts and essays on urban development by specialists provide an overview of building activity in Zurich. All of the approximately 1200 buildings, parks, squares and infrastructure buildings have been selected according to their architectural quality, their significance for the urban space, but also according to their role in the history of the city. There is room for unexpected objects, and even architectural sins also appear in the book, as long as they are relevant to urban development and typical of their time. Each object is depicted in at least one current or historical photograph. A plan of the majority of the objects is shown.
